Brewing

After a long absence from brewing beer, I picked up the hobby again. It’s probably been about year since I brewed a batch, but that was back in College Station. This makes the first batch that I did in Austin in the new house, as well as, the first batch I’ve done solo.

This first batch is a Pale Ale that I got from Austin Homebrew Supply called West Coast Pale Ale. It claims to be similar to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, but I have my doubts since it doesn’t require any dry hopping. I did end up with a mishap as I decided to ferment the beer in a glass carboy with an airlock. When I got home from work yesterday, I found the airlock and bung lying on the ground with krauzen oozing out of the top of the carboy. I had to clean that up and come up with something to act as a blow-off tube for the carboy since I didn’t have the proper equipment for one.

In the end, I was able to get it working and with luck I didn’t add any extra organisms to my beer that will ruin the flavor. Besides that one problem, the beer is looking good so far. Let’s hope it tastes as good as it looks.

New Job

I finally made a decision about my future. I have agreed to take a position in Austin, TX with the Applied Research Lab at the University of Texas. More information about the particular entity I will be working for can be found at ARL:SISL. It was definitely a tough decision to make, but in the end I think this was the best choice.

My start date is on October 1, so I don’t have much time to find a place to live.� Hopefully, I’ll find a good place quick.� We will see.� I have lots to do before then and hopefully I’ll get it all done.

Got most of the page done. I think I like this look much better. As an added bonus, the gallery looks much better with this theme. Overall, I’m happy with Wordpress. I had started out with Drupal, but Marius referred me to Wordpress so I figured I would give it a shot. Thanks Marius for the tip!

All I have left to do now is add some more content to the sidebar and change the header image and I’m good to go.

Format

I think I’ve decided on this format as my final look of the new page. I’ll probably work on the header image a little, but other than that I don’t expect I’ll change much more.

I’ve also integrated my picture gallery with this page so it should work pretty well. I also put up some more pictures that I’ve had lying around. I really need to start taking more pictures so that I’ll actually have a worthwhile gallery up on this site.

While I’m at it, I really need to start a tech blog so I can document some of the things that I do while at work. However, that’ll probably bore most people!
